Zooming Around
Hi everyone! My name is Lucas Kubycheck and I am a sophomore Finance and Accounting major at the university of Tennessee Knoxville. When I first started my English this class this year, I was excited to see that I can make a real difference in the community by starting a campaign to raise money for one of the non-profits in the area. I saw that they had an option to help AC-ARF a non-profit in Anderson County that helps take care of animals. I knew this was the perfect fit for me as I grew up with dogs that I loved. I remember when I was little, I would beg for my mom to get me a dog. They are so joyful, and I felt it was so necessary to complete the family. We went around to many shelters and couldn't find the one that was the right fit to add to the family. We eventually stumbled along this one local breeder and met a little black Havanese dog. He ran around me my parents and my brother like he already knew us. That dog came home that day, and we named him Otis. Otis grew up with me and my brother and really was part of the family. He was incredibly smart and was potty trained fast. He learned to listen to me and my parents but not as much my brother who he thought he was in charge of. Every night when I was sleeping Otis would claw at my door waiting for me to let him in so I can pick him up and put him on my bed to sleep. He would always lay at my feet and would go nuts the second any insignificant thing happened that he saw as a threat. The only time he ever left that spot was when he was sick or scared of the rain when he would then come up to the top of the bed so I could hold him to make sure he was ok. Otis eventually got sick and passed away which was definitely a hit on the family. It felt empty in the house and not to much later we got our second dog Lucy. I haven't been around Lucy as much as I was off at college right when we first got her. Lucy is not like Otis who was napping 75% of the day. She is very wild and runs around like crazy. My dad calls it the zoomies when she randomly decides she's going to sprint like her life depends on it across the entire house. She is more of my parent's dog with me and my younger brother gone and does not like to listen to as much. Regardless she always makes me happy when I come home for break when she runs up to me. I could not imagine growing up or taking care of my dogs which is why I like how I chose to help AC-ARF as they make sure all the animals in the area have a home and are cared for like they deserve to be.
